☥ PRESENT DAY ☥

Nyxara’s present ambitions have moved beyond preservation. House Vhal already has money, blood, workshops, courts, and a municipality shaped around disciplined darkness. Now she wants reach. Monster research and undead refinement have become the next extension of her household policy: stronger servitors, rarer anatomies, better weapons of obedience, and discoveries capable of making rival powers revise their estimates of her. House Vhal was never meant to remain a beautiful inheritance behind black gates. In her hands, it becomes a mechanism with appetite.

Her laboratories do not chase horror for novelty. They catalogue it, test it, feed it through law, and ask what can be made useful before sentiment arrives to interrupt the work. Corpse-bloom necromancy, revenant design, living restraints, preserved beasts, obedient remains, and blood-signed command all belong to the same expanding doctrine. A creature may begin as an omen, a corpse, a mistake of nature, or a sacred thing mishandled by priests. Nyxara is interested in what it becomes after House Vhal learns its seams.

Politics has followed her north. Within the Ivory Dominion, she moves through factional pressure with lacquered patience, weighing priestly discomfort against noble greed and mercantile dependence. She funds what flatters her. She delays what opposes her. She lets each faction believe it has found the correct version of her ambition, then spends that error when the hour turns useful. The Dominion taught her the value of orthodoxy performed with a steady voice. She has become fluent enough to make obedience sound like policy while policy quietly changes ownership.

The Verdant Accord requires a different hand. Its sacred traditions, living relics, jungle houses, old spirits, and dangerous myths do not answer to Dominion etiquette. Nyxara does not mistake that difference for purity. She studies the Accord as a foreign court with roots instead of marble, rites instead of contracts, and powers too ancient to be approached with only arrogance. Respect, from her, remains practical. Reverence is granted only after usefulness has survived examination.

Amenti-Sekh travels with her. The Sorrow-Wrapped Skin, a tainted Chicahua of the Verdant tradition, has made her northern movement more than diplomatic trespass. It binds her to the Accord through profanation, affinity, and living need. The armor remembers sacred ceibas. It remembers sorrow in the root. It answers darkness, grief, pressure, and the places where old sanctity has curdled without dying. Nyxara wears that bond as evidence. The Verdant world may reject her blood, but one of its ruined holy things has already chosen her body.

She has gone north to investigate the White Breath. The mist troubles her because it behaves like more than weather. It moves through rumor with the persistence of a rite half-remembered, touching jungle, swamp, settlement, and myth. People speak of it with the wrong kind of fear: not panic alone, but inheritance fear, the sort passed along until caution hardens into custom. Nyxara wants its origin, its hunger, its limits, and its price. If it is plague, she wants the vector. If it is curse, she wants the grammar. If it is a gate, a warning, or a living exhalation from something buried beneath Verdant memory, she intends to learn how close one may stand before the world changes shape.

The crystal trees draw her just as sharply. The myths surrounding them carry the scent of sacred infrastructure: old power rooted in place, memory held in living architecture, perhaps even a form of witness beyond Dominion law. They belong to another people’s holiness. That has never been enough to keep

Nyxara’s hands folded. Her investigation has become entangled with prophecy.

The swamp is not sleeping as deeply as its keepers hoped. Beneath rot, root, standing water, and green silence, old spirits have begun to stir toward awakening. At the center of that movement wait two great dragons, brother and sister, bound to the region’s deeper memory. Nyxara does not approach them as a chosen supplicant seeking absolution. She approaches as a woman skilled in names, bargains, death, and consequence. Prophecy may have opened the road. It has not decided who will stand nearest when the spirits rise.

Time has become an enemy with teeth. House of Flowers is moving through the same field, led by Selvara and Tonah. Their claim is native, verdant, and dangerous for that reason. They know the land’s language in ways Nyxara cannot counterfeit. They understand its houses, its loyalties, its wounds, and perhaps the ritual pressure beneath the awakening. She does not underestimate them. Underestimation is a luxury for people still expecting history to be fair.

The race is already underway. Whoever reaches the heart of the matter first may gain more than prestige. The awakening may grant access to spirits, dragon allegiance, old authority, living relics, or the right to define the event before frightened courts begin naming it for themselves. Nyxara has no intention of letting House of Flowers write the first useful account. Selvara and Tonah may arrive with roots, devotion, and local claim. Nyxara brings House Vhal, Amenti-Sekh, black sorcery, blood law, and the patience to turn delay itself into an instrument.

Yet her present life is not consumed by prophecy alone. Dynasty has entered her calculations with increasing force. Marriage, to Nyxara, is no soft retreat from ambition. It is architecture. A consort must be worth the name, useful beneath scrutiny, and capable of standing near her without becoming either ornament or liability. She wants heirs shaped by intention rather than accident. She wants House Vhal carried forward through blood, policy, sorcery, and cultivated fear. Continuity should not depend on hope.

Her closest loyalty remains more private and more difficult to explain cleanly. She is helping her bee-humanoid dearest friend, and the effort matters to her beyond convenience. Nyxara’s affection rarely looks innocent. It shelters, arranges, instructs, purchases, threatens, and preserves. Still, the attachment is real. She will cross courts, bargain with hostile powers, and bend research toward protection when someone has earned a place inside the narrow circle of what she refuses to waste.

This is the shape of her present day: House Vhal expanding through forbidden research; Dominion factions handled with polished contempt; Verdant powers studied without surrender; Amenti-Sekh carried north into mist, myth, and hostile green; the White Breath awaiting definition; crystal trees drawing old questions from the jungle; swamp spirits stirring toward prophecy; dragon siblings near waking; House of Flowers moving against her under Selvara and Tonah; marriage and dynasty taking form beside danger; friendship guarded with the same severity she gives to power.

Nyxara is not divided by these pursuits. She is arranging them.

Each road gives her another claim. Each rival offers another proof of necessity. Each sacred threshold, once crossed, teaches her how the lock was made.
